Blog 1 – Chapters Presentation Reflection – Monica Medina
This blog post is a reflection on the first group presentation project in my Public Speaking class. This project was very challenging for me, especially because public speaking has always been difficult for me, and speaking in English makes it even harder. From the beginning, I felt nervous and insecure about presenting in front of others. I worried about my pronunciation, forgetting my words, and not being able to express my ideas clearly.
Even though I felt afraid, this project pushed me outside of my comfort zone. After watching all the group presentations and reflecting on my own participation, I realized how much I learned from this experience. This project helped me understand that public speaking is not just about talking. It is also about listening, preparing, understanding the audience, and learning from mistakes. Overall, this experience helped me grow both academically and personally.
Group 1 focused on the foundations of public speaking. They discussed important topics such as understanding the audience, building confidence, listening skills, and basic communication models. One thing that stood out to me was their explanation of how listening is just as important as speaking. Before this class, I never thought about listening as part of public speaking, but now I understand how connected they are.
I also liked how they talked about confidence and how practice can help reduce fear. As someone who struggles with public speaking, this part of their presentation made me feel more hopeful and motivated. Their explanation of audience analysis helped me realize that speakers should always pay attention to how the audience reacts and adjust their message if needed. Overall, Group 1 helped me understand the basic elements needed to become a better speaker.
Group 2 focused on what makes a successful speech. They talked about having a clear purpose, doing research, organizing ideas, and using effective speaking methods. This presentation helped me understand that every speech needs a clear goal so the audience can follow the message.
One important thing I learned from this group is that preparation plays a big role in reducing anxiety. When a speaker is prepared and understands their topic, they can feel more confident. This is especially important for me because speaking in English already makes me nervous. Group 2 helped me realize that good organization and preparation can help improve both confidence and delivery.
Group 3 was my group, so this presentation was very meaningful to me. Our group focused on chapters 9, 10, 11, and 12, which are related to delivering a speech effectively. These chapters discussed how to gain and keep the audience’s attention, use language clearly, integrate presentation media, and deliver a speech with confidence.
Being part of this group helped me understand how challenging delivery can be, especially for someone like me who struggles with public speaking and speaking in English. Preparing for this presentation made me realize how important it is to practice, organize ideas clearly, and use simple language so the audience can understand the message.
From my perspective as both a presenter and a listener, I think our group did a good job explaining the topics and using visuals to support the information. Watching our presentation on Panopto helped me identify areas where I can improve, such as speaking more confidently, slowing down my speech, and making better eye contact. This experience helped me grow and understand that delivery is just as important as content.
Group 4 discussed different types of speeches, including informative, persuasive, and special occasion speeches. They also talked about group presentations and speaking in virtual or distance settings. I found this presentation interesting because it showed how public speaking skills are used in many real-life situations.
Learning about persuasive speaking helped me understand how speakers can influence others using facts and emotions. This presentation also helped me see how public speaking skills are important not only in school, but also in professional and everyday situations. Group 4 made it clear that communication skills are valuable for the future.
My Personal Experience with Public Speaking
Presenting in front of the class was one of the hardest parts of this project for me. Speaking in public makes me nervous, and speaking in English adds even more pressure. I was afraid of making mistakes, mispronouncing words, and not being understood by my classmates. Even though I prepared for the presentation, I still felt anxious before speaking.
Watching myself on Panopto was uncomfortable at first, but it helped me reflect on my performance. I noticed that I need to work on sounding more confident and controlling my pace. However, I also realized that I did better than I expected. This helped me feel proud of myself and motivated me to keep improving.
This experience taught me that mistakes are part of learning and that practice helps reduce fear. It also showed me that even though public speaking in English is difficult, I am capable of improving with time and effort.
In conclusion, this group presentation project was challenging but very valuable for me. I learned about different aspects of public speaking, including preparation, delivery, audience awareness, and confidence. Watching other groups present helped me learn different techniques, and participating in my own group helped me grow personally.
Although public speaking in English is still difficult for me, this project showed me that improvement is possible. With practice, preparation, and confidence, I believe I can continue to develop my public speaking skills and apply them in my academic and professional future.

Very good reflection! Your English is fine!
