Blog post #1 Chapter presentations reflections-  By Griselly Andrade Throughout the group presentations, I realized that public speaking is much deeper and more intentional than I originally thought. Each group covered different chapters, but together they helped me see communication not just as speaking in front of a class, but as a skill that influences how we connect with people in every area of life. What stood out to me most was how every presentation built on the previous one, starting with the basics and gradually moving toward more advanced strategies. By the end, I felt like I had a much clearer understanding of what it truly means to be an effective speaker. Group 1 focused on the foundational chapters about the basics of public speaking. Even though these chapters seemed introductory, I found them extremely important. One idea that stayed with me was the importance of understanding your audience. Before this presentation, I did not always think deeply about how muc...

Blog Post #1 - Chapter Presentations Reflection - by Giselle Iskandarani

Hi, my name is Giselle, and this is my reflection of the chapter presentations. This is the first in a series of blog posts I will be posting frequently with the purpose of detailing my perspective on what I have learned from the presentations given in my Introduction to Speech class at Miami-Dade College. I came into this class hoping to learn a lot, as I believe being able to communicate with others, especially a large group of people, is the key to success. In my daily life I often need to speak with a lot of people, with the professor leading my research project, with the boards of clubs I am president of, and with the kids at my jobs. Thankfully, so far I believe my hopes have been met and I’ve learned so much I can apply in these space. Throughout the chapter presentations, I learned that public speaking involves far more than simply standing in front of an audience and talking. Together, each group's presentation taught me so much about the different aspects of public speak...

Blog 1 – Chapters Presentation Reflection/Madelay Cabrera Ravelo

By: Madelay Cabrera Ravelo Public speaking is something that used to make me feel very nervous and unsure of myself. Before taking this class, I always thought that speaking in front of others was mainly about memorizing information and trying not to make mistakes. However, after watching the different group presentations and learning about the chapters covered throughout this project, my perspective on public speaking has changed significantly. This experience helped me realize that public speaking is not just about talking, but about preparation, confidence, ethics, and creating a real connection with the audience. One of the first major ideas that stood out to me was audience-centered speaking. I learned that effective communication begins with understanding who the audience is and what they need. A speaker must consider factors such as age, culture, background, and prior knowledge. By doing this, the speaker can choose language and examples that make the message clearer and more re...

Blog 1 - Chapters Presentation Reflection - by Luciana Lujan

People biggest fear is not facing dead but seeing them in public speaking, straight to a scene of terror: being lonely on a podium with an audience of expectant faces. For almost all of us it is synonymous with a “fear moment” characterized by sweaty hands, racing heart and shaky voice. After spending the last month being enrolled in a public speaking class, my perspective about it has changed considerably. I have realized that public speaking is more than just standing in front of people to talk, is an essential skill that help us to create confidence to share ideas effectively, influence, inform or inspire those around us. Public speaking has a central role in our live,  every day  at any moment. It is not only for politicians or motivation speakers but is also a necessary skill for anyone who has an audience listening to them need to demonstrate their ability to effectively communicate. Teachers, nurses, and fitness instructors are all perfect ex...

This blog post is a reflection on the first group presentation project in my Public Speaking class. This project was very challenging for me, especially because public speaking has always been difficult for me, and speaking in English makes it even harder. From the beginning, I felt nervous and insecure about presenting in front of others. I worried about my pronunciation, forgetting my words, and not being able to express my ideas clearly.      Even though I felt afraid, this project pushed me outside of my comfort zone. After watching all the group presentations and reflecting on my own participation, I realized how much I learned from this experience. This project helped me understand that public speaking is not just about talking. It is also about listening, preparing, understanding the audience, and learning from mistakes. Overall, this experience helped me grow both academically and personally.      Group 1 focused on the foundati...
